Ms. Vega is one of the new English teachers this year at Centreville High School. Ms. Vega teaches English 9 and has been here for three months. Though this is her first year teaching at Centreville, she has taught at Chantilly High School for a year, and before that, she taught at Scarsdale High School for eight years. Ms. Vega came to Centreville when she heard about an opening at Centreville and someone she knew recommended it because they liked working there.
For college, Ms. Vega attended Fordham University in New York and majored in English. Ms. Vega does not currently sponsor any clubs or activities; however, she hopes to in the future. In her free time, Ms. Vega likes to sleep and relax. She also enjoys baking, playing with her Golden doodle, and reading.
Ms. Vega did not always want to be a teacher, but she knew that she wanted to work with kids as she always loved to talk about books and persuade others about them. Teaching English combined both of those things. The things that Ms. Vega enjoys about teaching high school and her subject is that she can have deeper conversations with her students and that she gets to share her interests with them and they can share theirs. Additionally, she enjoys her students’ opinions, and she likes the content that she gets to teach.
Furthermore, she likes Centerville and the English department as they were very welcoming and answered any questions or concerns she had since she first came. Ms. Vega said that the hardest part about teaching English is the grading and the writing as it is time-consuming because everything needs to be looked over.
Ms. Vega’s favorite book to teach is The Great Gatsby and she loves to read Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. This summer, she traveled to the Dominican Republic, and she went to Switzerland to visit her brother. Ms. Vega loves working with her co-teacher Ms. Kralik and she really likes the whole English 9 team, especially her mentor Jennie Hwangpo.
