From March to August, Taylor Swift has been trekking across the nation with her Eras Tour, and this journey has now been encapsulated and brought to the big screen with Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour movie.
The film was released on October 13, with ticket presales flying off the charts as Swifties hurried to purchase an opportunity to see their favorite songs performed in theaters. AMC’s website even had visitors lined up in online queues upon the announcement of ticket presales. Filming for the movie took place during Swift’s August dates at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.
The movie showcased exactly what Swift intended for the concert tour itself: a lookbook of her albums, displaying her history in the music industry. It starts off with songs from Lover, including “Cruel Summer.” We then move into Fearless, featuring one of her biggest hits “You Belong With Me.” We are taken through notable albums including reputation, Speak Now, and folklore, with several tracks from her most recent album, Midnights, bringing up the rear. As the movie showed the L.A. stops, the surprise songs shared were “Our Song” from her debut album and “You’re on Your Own, Kid” from Midnights.
Not only were Swift’s performances groundbreaking but her impact was reflected in the actions of her fans both during the featured shows and in theaters. Videos were shared on TikTok of audiences singing and dancing in movie theaters as if they were physically at the concert. Debuting in 2006, Swift has remained a familiar name throughout the entertainment industry for over a decade and a half. However, in these past few years, her presence on top of the charts has been undeniable.
As a viewer, I personally enjoyed the quality of the film. It did an amazing job painting a picture of the excitement and buzz surrounding the legendary, record-breaking tour that spanned half of the calendar year. The time and energy put into creating the film and the tour itself is evident. Swift is known all too well for her meticulous attention to detail in terms of content for her fans and has shared, “I can’t thank you enough for wanting to see this film that so vividly captures my favorite adventure I’ve ever been a part of: The Eras Tour. And the best part is, it’s an adventure we’re still on together.”
