Planet Earth is Blue is a middle grade, realistic fiction book by Nicole Panteleakos, originally published in 2020 with over 1,000 copies sold on Amazon alone. The book covers themes of autism, family and foster care.
The plot of Planet Earth is Blue revolves around Nova, who is a twelve year old, non-verbal girl who absolutely loves space and her sister Bridget. But, for the first time in her life, she has been separated from her older sister in her newest foster home. Yet, Nova remembers that Bridget said she would be there with Nova when the spaceship, Challenger launches, with the first teacher as a passenger. As the days count down to the launch of the Challenger Nova goes through a new family, new school, and new everything. But most importantly, a new life without Bridget for just ten days until Challenger launch.
Some of the reasons that the book was so great is that the characters are really authentic and realistic and that Nova especially is such a dynamic character with deep emotions and thoughts. The plot kept me reading, page after page. The plot had depth but was still easy to interpret for all readers. A powerful story about the extraordinary mind of a young girl with autism and the bond between sisters. It’s a truly amazing book full of love, details and layers.
And many popular authors loved the book too. The book has earned 4.8 stars out of five on Amazon and five out of five stars on Goodreads. Rebecca Stead, the author of the book, “When You Reach Me”, said this about the book; “Tender and illuminating. A beautiful debut.”
Well known author Ann M. Martin, of “The Baby Sitters Club” books thought this: “A powerful story about the extraordinary mind of a young girl with autism and the bond between sisters.”
