Bob’s Burgers is an animated comedy that first aired in 2011. It is produced by Fox and created by Loren Bouchard and Jim Dautrive.
Bob Belcher, his wife Linda and their three kids, Tina, Gene and Louise, run a small, often failing, burger shop in a small beach town. The show explores the trials of running a small business plus the wily adventures the kids outside of the restaurant.
It’s a really funny and entertaining show with lots of detail and beautiful artwork and animation from episode to episode. The TV show has even been adapted into a major-motion picture.
Every character and episode has its own little quirks and twists. The animation is beautifully detailed. Each episode feels new and different while still following a central plot with recurring traits of characters. Every character has a central theme while also evolving throughout the show and making you feel like you actually know the characters.
Bob comes from a family of restaurant owners and takes great pride in his work. Every day he creates witty names for his “Burger of the Day” based on the ingredients in them. He loves his family, no matter how tiring they can be. Bob remains optimistic despite his streak of bad luck in his business.
Linda, Bob’s wife, is a fun wild card who loves to dance and sing. She supports her husband in the family business while pursuing her own life too. Although Linda can be competitive, she always comes back to love her husband Bob and their kids.
Tina is the Belcher’s oldest child, an eighth grade girl. Tina is quirky, loves zombies, boys, horses and writing.
Gene is Bob and Linda’s only son and middle child who shares his mothers love for anything creative. He loves creating music on his keyboard and megaphone, especially with his friends and siblings.
Louise, the youngest, is chaotic and always scheming but also ambitious and creative. She aspires to be like her dad, but hides this from her family.
What sets Bob’s Burgers apart from many other animated sitcoms is the theme of family, although many shows revolve around a nuclear family, like the Belchers, it does not rely on having the family members target and insult each other. The family can joke together without hurting others feelings easily creating a feel-good show that also has a good dose of humor.
Bob’s Burgers had a notable cast of voice actors and creators who have created a name for themselves. For example, Kristen Schaal, the voice of Louise Belcher, has also voiced Mabel Pines on Gravity Falls. H. John Benjamin, the voice of Bob Belcher, is also the voice of Sterling Archer in the show Archer.
Bob’s Burgers has earned itself a rating of 8.2/10 on IMDb and 87% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes.
IMDb user owenpont-70803 said this about the show. “Bob’s Burgers is the definition of relaxation. Everything about bobs burgers just works. The acting is on point and is easily one of the best voice acting today. Each plot works perfectly. And the animation is great.” Another IMDb user, by the name of tracy-duchene said, “The humor is original, fresh, and it completely helps push the plot of each show along instead of throwing in humor that is completely unrelated to the plot”.
Overall, Bob’s Burgers is a funny feel-good show to watch again and again.
