A new action movie is here in theaters: The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Get to know a bit about the film!
The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare was released this year on April 13. The film falls under the genres action and historical. Notable actors like Henry Cavill and Alan Ritchson star in this film.
The movie is about British Prime Minister Winston Churchill and a group of military officials hatching a daring plan to neutralize Hitler’s fleet of German U-boats during World War II. Made up of a motley crew of rogues and mavericks, the top-secret combat unit uses unconventional techniques to battle the Nazis and change the course of the war. This movie is also based on the book Churchill’s Secret Warriors: The Explosive True Story of the Special Forces Desperadoes of WWII.
Looking at the trailer alone, the movie looks to be exciting and packed with action. Weapons that you would expect from WW2 are present, there are sprinkles of humor, acting looks to be good or adequate, and the trailer overall hypes up this new movie nicely.
Based on some audience reviews, Guy Ritchie (director) “came back with another stylistic blast” in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. This film is a mix between history and fiction because of its events and most of the characters are based on real life people that were mentioned in the book this movie is based on. “The story itself and the elements are true,” Arash Amel, one of the movie’s screenwriters, told the Los Angeles Times. Ritchie took a unique approach when choosing to direct a film based on the events during WW2. Something of which is so prominent in history and he’s able to mix in humor as well. Audience members give praise to this detail—”This kind of twisty, lighthearted, impossible-caper movie is the kind of thing that director Guy Ritchie does best; it’s not very deep, but it’s funny, swiftly paced, and tells a great story.”
The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare falls under action-comedy and historical. And so far it’s done well fitting into its genres, more so action-comedy as it has more positive reviews on that aspect of the movie. One reviewer comments “The best-looking cast of the year takes out a gazillion Nazis without aiming in Guy Ritchie’s action-comedy. A rip-roaring good time!” Though there are a lot of pros being said about this movie, there’s also some cons to it as well according to audience reviews. Another reviewer says “Succeeds as a cheeky World War II action comedy with some amusing quirks and clever twists, but stumbles when it tries to raise the stakes by injecting deeper socio-political intrigue.” Ungentlemanly Warfare has earned around $11,588,667 million USD so far in the domestic box office. It had a low earning of $9 million in box offices during its opening premiere. This was due to the fact that the film was mostly being released domestically and not internationally as much. As for its rotten tomatoes, the film has a 71% on the tomatometer and a 92% on audience score.
