The President’s feud with the Governor of California

The California wildfires have reignited the previous disagreement between the soon-to-be-President Donald Trump and Governor Gavin Newsom. This past couple of weeks, California has been experiencing extreme weather and multiple wildfires have popped up. Because of the extreme wind speeds, some reaching up to 100mph, and the lack of usable freshwater to extinguish the fires, the California wildfires have been raging on and displacing many families.
One potential reason for the lack of usable freshwater is caused by California’s Governor Newsom’s environmental policies that divert usable freshwater into areas to preserve the natural habitat. President Trump blames Governor Newsom for the main reason for this destruction to the city of LA, as stated “I will demand that this incompetent Governor allow beautiful, clean, fresh water to FLOW INTO CALIFORNIA! He is the blame for this,” (Trump’s social media posts 2025). It is important to note that President Trump doesn’t believe in climate change, so his opinions on saving the environment causes controversies.
President Trump and Governor Newsom have a rocky past as Trump is a well known candidate for the republican party and Newsom is a proud democratic leader. Because of this disagreement in political stances, you can assume that those 2 don’t get along. Trump has always been adamant about forest preservation and fire prevention. A tweet from 6 years ago (2019) shows Trump’s harsh judgement on Newsom, “@GavinNewsom, has done a terrible job of forest management,”. Trump is using the L.A. fires as a way of bickering with Newsom and ruining his reputation.
