Sweden And Finland - The New NATO Members?

Sweden And Finland – The New NATO Members?

Paul Siebert
May 31, 2022
On May 18, 2022, Sweden and Finland formally announced their wish to join NATO. This wish to give up decades of military neutrality quickly developed after Putin’s Russia attacked Ukraine on February 24th, 2022, leaving large parts of Ukraine in ruins. But we can’t be sure whether Sweden and Finland will actually be accepted into NATO since Turkey has already announced that it plans on vetoing the accession of the two Nordic countries. What exactly NATO is, why the Swedes and Finns have recently changed their views on it, and why Erdogan does not want them to join will all be discussed in this article.

May 20, 2022
Sri Lanka is a south Asian island nation of 22 million people right off the coast of India. The British colonized the island in 1815 and it remained a dominion until 1972, when it finally became fully independent and subsequently its own republic. But since then, the people of Sri Lanka have been suffering from a civil war and corruption everywhere. Now, Sri Lanka is in its worst economic crisis since it gained independence. But how could it come to this and how is the Rajapaksa family related to it?

The Deforestation of Tropical Rainforests and its Effects

Paul Siebert
May 10, 2022
In the past century, humans have been continuously destroying rainforests to satisfy their hunger for industrial and agricultural success; in short: money. Today, two thirds of all original tropical rainforest cover around the world is either gone or severely damaged. That has led to many scientists exclaiming that it is too late for us, that we have gone too far. But why even are rainforests so important for the planet and the species living on it, including us? And is it really too late for us to change and save the rainforests?

Qatar: The Most Controversial World Cup Host Ever?

Paul Siebert
March 15, 2022
As the 2022 FIFA World Cup is drawing ever closer, let’s take another look at its host Qatar; a country only twice the size of Delaware that is located in the Persian Gulf. The country has been involved in enormous amounts of controversy, including accusations of bribery and corruption and the practice of modern slavery, since it won the bid for the World Cup in 2010. How much of that is actually true and whether Qatar is a country suitable to host a FIFA World Cup will be discussed in this article.
