It Ends With Us is a contemporary romance novel written by Colleen Hoover, this book has caught the interest of many young adult readers because of the steamy love triangle between the three main characters. The novels unexpected twists and turns have been a constant topic of discussion between readers on social media platforms such as Tik Tok.

The book rotates around the main character, Lily and the challenges she faces. Specifically, the drama she experiences with her lovers Atlas, her first love from her childhood, and Ryle, someone she falls in love with after college and the guy Lily ultimately ends up marrying. Throughout the book, the parallels between Lily’s emotional and physical abuse in her childhood and then in her adulthood when she becomes involved with Ryle lead her to make some indecisive choices.

As a frequent reader of Hoovers novels, I’ve noticed that she provides her readers with a basic foundation of sensory details that further allow readers to imagine what the characters look like, what the environment around them resembles, and most importantly the love and heartbreak the characters feel throughout the story. The attention to detail and the clear storyline is an essential part of storytelling. It Ends with Us had a very engaging plot and I felt very tied up in the novel. It took me only two days to finish the whole book because I was so invested in the story.

Although It Ends With Us is mostly about romance, a ton of people can relate to the abuse and the trauma Lily goes through throughout the book. Urwah Khattak says “This book is a five star book. It is beautifully written and I just can’t put it down. It talks about a lot of trauma [that] Lily went through, and although the book is solely about romance, it really acknowledges the abuse Lily faces.”

It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover has sold over a million copies. Since the abuse it entails is a very sensitive topic, many people can relate to it. The book itself, since it has sold many copies, has been translated into over twenty languages.
