On June 1st, 2021, Alexander James O’Connor, also known as Rex Orange County, was charged with six sexual assault claims. These claims were made public on October 10, 2022. The victim stated that O’Connor had inappropriately touched her twice in London’s West End, three times in his Notting Hill home, and once in a taxi.

The woman chose to remain anonymous, but her age is revealed to be above 16, meaning that she is of legal age to consent in London. The age of consent is the age at which a person can legally consent to sexual actions. If she was under the age of consent, there is a possibility of O’Connor serving a 14-year sentence. However, since she is older than the age of consent, he will likely serve a sentence that is shorter if he is found guilty.

Alex responded quickly to these allegations the same day they came out, pleading not guilty. “[He] is shocked by [the] allegations, which [O’Connor] denies, and looks forward to clearing his name in court,” O’Connor’s representative told Variety. The O’Connor trial will be set for January 3, 2023, where more information regarding these claims will be revealed.

Before these allegations rose, Rex Orange County was on his Who Cares? tour throughout the United States. This was until he canceled his performances in Australia, Europe, and New Zealand in July 2022. On Instagram, O’Connor stated, “I love touring and I am so sorry to be letting anyone down. I look forward to getting back to it as soon as I can.” Who Cares? is an album dedicated to Alex’s ex-girlfriend Thea Morgan-Murrell, with whom he had a seven-year relationship. O’Connor confirmed the couple split on November 24th, 2022. There is no confirmed reason as to why the couple split up; the fans assume it was due to the distance. Morgan-Murrell has not made a statement about the sexual assault claims since they came out.
