With a 40% approval rating, President Joe Biden’s standing has fallen to its lowest point since taking office due to public dissatisfaction with his handling of foreign policy and the Israel-Hamas conflict. Support for US President Joe Biden among Arab Americans has dropped to a record-low 17% as he continues to support the Israeli military offensive in Gaza. Even sources inside the White House have confirmed the continuous dissatisfaction among citizens, “U.S. President Joe Biden’s popularity slipped this month to its lowest level since April, a Reuters/Ipsos poll showed, the latest data point raising concerns about the Democrat’s re-election bid next year.” Jason Lange (Reuters correspondent). According to a new poll released Tuesday by the AAI (Arab American Institute) Arab American support for Biden has fallen by 42% since 2020, when he was first elected. Additionally, the new data aligns with Biden’s pledge to provide “steadfast and unwavering leadership” to Israel as it continues its military campaign in Gaza, which has killed over 8,500 Palestinians since October 7. Furthermore, many Arab American voters are even more distraught with Biden and his administration as the US already provides Israel with more than 3.8 billion dollars in military funding each year, but since the war began, Biden has pledged to provide Israel with further assistance including ammunition and other weapons. However, in addition to this, the White House has also requested an additional 14 billion dollars to Israel from Congress this month. Moreover, critics have also pointed out that the Biden administration has set apart Arab American voters by dismissing the Palestinian plight. Other sources have also reported about the president’s downfall, James Zogby, AAI’s president, described the findings as “dramatic”.“The dissatisfaction with President Biden is quite significant,” Zogby said during a virtual briefing. “His numbers are dangerously low, more so than I’ve ever seen for a Democratic candidate for president.”
If the approval ratings keep plummeting there will be longer-term effects and troubles for the president as he is running for reelection, and while the vote is not until next year (November) many Palestine, Arab, and Muslim advocates have pledged not to vote for him over his stance on the war between Israel and Palestine. Additionally, the dissatisfaction shown by young voters, Arab Americans, and democrats as Joe Biden continues to handle foreign policy and the Israel – Hamas conflict with controversy. It will be a challenge for Joe Biden to regain support from the many groups he has displeased before the 2024 Election Day.
