The Centreville blood drive is an event the SGA organizes. Hannah Wakefield, an SGA member, explained “this event is an opportunity for students and staff in this school to donate blood to Inova.”
To donate, the requirements are being at least 16 year old and over 110 pounds. The blood drive was held Dec. 6 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and it was in blood mobiles that were provided by Inova and parked in front of the school. This school event started in 2020 and since then it’s been a strong ongoing tradition that Centreville looks forward to every year. Before donating, they prick your finger to check your iron to see if you’re qualified to donate. Every person that donates gets a free fanny pack provided by Inova.
Hannah says that the Inova coordinators helped with the promotional things they needed and that the most difficult part of this was getting people to sign up due to the requirements. It’s important to donate because there’s lots of people in need and many people are not super aware of it. One person donating 1.8 ounces of blood is saving 2-3 lives and makes a huge difference in that. Lizzie Asif said “I’m donating blood because I’m saving three lives and making me feel like a good person.”
