Spring Hill Elementary, an FCPS school in McLean, Virginia was recently awarded the 2024 National Blue Ribbon award, specifically for their great performance in the 2022-2023 school year in reading and math. Each year, several schools across the nation are given this award for high performance and “making exemplary progress toward closing achievement gaps”. Eight schools in Virginia have received the award in the past, though Spring Hill is the first in Fairfax County to win one.
The school is proud to have families from all around the world, including over 52 birth countries and 43 spoken languages as well, performance is high in “multilingual learners, disabled students and white, black, Hispanic and Asian students”. The principal, Amy Briggs, credits parents and other community volunteers for helping the school reach this milestone, even saying “parents and staff members share a common commitment to help students develop and grow socially, emotionally, physically, and academically.”
This is not the first time that Spring Hill Elementary School has been awarded a great achievement either. In 2023, the Virginia Department of Education acknowledged Spring Hill for their consistently high standard of learning (SOL) scores over the last several years.
In conclusion, this is a great honor for not only Spring Hill Elementary School, but all of Fairfax County!
