A woman named Jamie Lee Komoroski pleaded guilty to causing a terrible car accident that killed a bride, Samantha “Sam” Miller, and injured others just after the bride’s wedding. Komoroski was driving under the influence of alcohol, and the accident happened while Miller and her new husband, Aric Hutchinson, were riding in a golf cart decorated for their wedding celebration. Komoroski was sentenced to 25 years in prison for her actions.
In court, Komoroski was wiping away tears as Samantha’s family were under pain. Samantha’s mother, Lisa Miller, spoke about the sadness and loss. “We have been sentenced to a lifetime of pain,” Lisa said. “She was a light, she was loved, she was amazing and always will be… She will always be my child.”
Samantha’s father, Brad Warner, was also heartbroken and showed his anger at Komoroski. “You have ruined so many people’s lives, and I hope you understand what you did,” he said to her…for the rest of my life, I’m going to hate you. And when I arrive in hell and you come there, I’m going to open the gate for you.” His words showed how much pain the family is in after losing Samantha.
Komoroski admitted in court that what she did was a huge mistake. Dressed in a black suit, she told the court, “This is the worst decision I have ever made in my life, and it has affected the lives of so many.” She went on to take full responsibility for the tragedy, saying, “I will carry this guilt with me for the rest of my life.
The court accepted her guilty plea, which was not negotiable, the punishment was already set. South Carolina Judge Dedra L. Jefferson sentenced Komoroski to 25 years in prison. This time includes credit for the period Komoroski has already spent in jail while waiting for her trial.
This sad event has caused deep pain for Samantha’s family and friends, and it is a reminder of the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol. Komoroski will spend many years in prison, but the family will feel the pain of losing Samantha for the rest of their lives.
