AP Art History is a New Elective at CVHS, Returning for the 2025-2026 School Year.
AP Art History is a new elective at CVHS, taught by Mrs. Cable, who also teaches World History and SGA. The course will cover 250 different pieces of art and architecture through notes, movies and exciting projects.
“ I strongly believe that this course is one of the most rewarding courses offered, as it exposes students to an exciting new world of art appreciation. My hope is that it inspires each of them to travel the world and appreciate other cultures for their artistic contributions,” says Mrs. Cable, the teacher of AP Art History. The course gives students a chance to explore 250 different works of art, such as the Mona Lisa by Leonardo de Vinci, the Colosseum, and The Scream by Edvard Munch. The pieces studied come from all across the world and start at prehistory, all the way to the present day.
The class is popular with students for its fun activities that aid in immersing them in the content. For example, students together formed the elusive Stonehenge out of Rice Krispy Treats, dressed up as famous artists or art works for Halloween, and even went on a field trip to the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C.

The class can be challenging, with at least one hour of homework per class and an AP exam in the spring, but is also incredibly rewarding. AP Art History student Aubrey Chan says “Compared to AP World or US History, APAH is so much more engaging and really shows the true results of history as it happens. The class itself is super lenient compared to many other AP courses and the work isn’t super demanding; it’s definitely suitable for students looking for an introduction to AP classes” about the class.
Additionally, student Emma Parkinson says that she really likes the class because “it combines all the things I love about art with the context of when the images were created. I really love learning about the history and significance behind the artwork!”

In conclusion, AP Art History is an exciting course at CVHS, that is immersive yet challenging, and returning for the 2025-2026 school year.
