Intro to Swim and Dive

David Schoshinski

The Centreville Swim and Dive Team is one of the biggest sports teams at Centreville High School with 51 members on the roster. However, before last year, the team hadn’t won a single meet in 7 years. Last year they were 2-4 which is a huge improvement.

Last year’s team had many great swimmers on it, including Lexi Cuomo, who was freshman at the time the team had an amazing swim season.

Coumo broke 4 school records and placed second at States for individual competition. She also went to the Olympic Trials but sadly did not make the Olympic Team.

“It was really awesome because I broke [the records] when I was being cheered on by team at the meets,” said Cuomo (1o).

The team also broke one school record and was placed 4th at Regionals. The team hopes to build on their impressive season and improve their records.

The Swim and Dive isn’t the most talked about or noticed sport but it has one of the more impressive team of athletes. The team is hopeful the new freshman can come in and make a difference because of talent lost due to students graduating.

“My favorite moment from last year was the trip to a swim meet in Kecoughtan,” said Cuomo. “It was really fun getting to stay in the hotel and hang out with a smaller part of the team.”

“When we won our first meet in 7 years last year we all kinda lost it” said Thalia Costanza.

The swim team hopes to start a winning streak to reverse. Here’s their schedule:
