Zoic: “Her Melanin” Poem

Sydney Brobbey

Her Melanin

By: Sydney Brobbey

Her melanin glows like the orange sun

Her dark chocolate complexion – so fine

As she walks by, who can be compared – none

Her red, rosy lips stand out like red wine

As the stars fall, you see her eyes twinkle

Her stellar beauty cannot be denied

Her skin begins to shimmer a little

You observe her as she begins to stride

But she does not see herself like you do

She sees herself as “just a dark skinned” girl

You say that she defines beauty for you

She says she is “ugly to the world”

You believe her melanin is pure gold

You want her to have and to hold.
