Roman Reigns’ Battle Of Leukemia

WWE superstar, Roman Reigns — one of the most beloved heels in the history of the sport — had walked out the ring to a chorus of boos, capturing every moment. The fans became silent after he publicly announced some devastating news. He would have to give up is WWE universal championship title, the belt he worked so hard for. Everyone was confused to why he had to do this, until he revealed that he had been suffering with leukemia for 11 years, and has unfortunately returned.

 

Leukemia is a form of cancer of the body’s blood forming cells. There are different forms of this disease that need different types of treatment. It can be deadly, but is also curable. He then began to explain his long going battle with the cancer. He was first diagnosed with leukemia in 2007 when he was 22. “Because the leukemia is back, I can’t fulfill my role. I can’t be that fighting champion and I’m going to have to relinquish the Universal championship. I’m not going to lie, I’ll take every prayer you can send my way but I’m not looking for sympathy, I’m not looking for you to feel bad for me, because I have faith” says Reigns. He thanked the WWE for giving him a chance when he was at a low point in his life.

 

Roman had stated that he was not giving a retirement speech. He had promised the WWE universe that he would return after overcoming his battle with cancer. WWE stated that “Reigns is taking his battle with leukemia public in an effort to raise awareness and funds for research in order to advance cures for the disease.” His fans felt sympathy for him as they began to cry. After his heartbreaking speech, Reigns takes one more moment to capture his amazing connection between him and the fans. He then laid down the title belt in the ring. The fans of WWE began to chant “Thank you Roman” as he leaves the ring.
