Key Club International District Convention (DCON)
March 22, 2019
This past weekend Centreville High School’s Key Club had the privilege of attending our Capital District Convention (DCON). Key Club International is an organization that aims to allow High School students to follow their school principals while pushing them towards building unwavering character and leadership. Key Club International’s mission statement states, “Key Club is an international, student-led organization that provides its members with opportunities to provide service, build character and develop leadership.” Through Key Club High School students give back to the community learning the value of teamwork, integrity and service.
Every year, Key Club has a District Convention (DCON) in Baltimore, Maryland. This year this event was held on March 15 – 17th. District Convention (DCON) is an annual event which is held at Baltimore Inner Harbor to celebrate achievements of the past year, to elect the new district officers, attend workshops and meet new people who also provide service. Students gain leadership advice, fundraising skills, public speaking skills, seminars, service activities, and many more. Key club members also receive the opportunity to meet district leaders, learn about organizations that have a relationship with Key Club, and network with people. The Capital District includes more than 13,500 members and 235 clubs. These clubs fall within one of the 34 divisions, and Centreville High School is categorized as Division 2B. Each division is represented by a Lieutenant Governor. Kyle Foster was the Lieutenant Governor for the year 2017-2018. Kyle is now the new district editor and was recognized this weekend at DCON for his great achievements. Centreville High School Key Club is incredibly proud of Kyle. There is a different theme every year, and this year it was “all around the world.”
“I’m really glad that I got to attend DCON Freshman year because it made me realize how big the organization really was and we got to see the impact that each individual club has on the world. After learning more and understanding what Key Club is I knew that I wanted to take a bigger part in the club. I’m really lucky to have been on board for two years because I was able to make a more direct impact. I was also able to meet some amazing people that I have grown really close with and that was only possible through Key Club. As a senior I find Key Club to be a big aspect of my high school career,” said Parisha Zinzuwadia.
I am very excited for new key club members and very proud of all the members for their incredible time and effort in making differences in the world!
