Three Tragedies

In just a week there’s been three suicides, and two of the three are related to the same situation. There’s been many active school shootings, and those who lost their lives were survivors, and or a parent of a victim of a school shooting. Jeremy Richman, was the father of 6 year old Avielle Richman, who was among six adults, and 20 children killed during the Sandy Hook shooting in 2012. It was confirmed that he took his life last Monday morning. He created a foundation after losing his child, and together the foundation mourned over his death. “Jeremy’s mission will be carried on by the many who love him, Including many who share the heartache and trauma that he has suffered since December 14, 2012. We are crushed to pieces, but this important work will continue, because, as Jeremy would say, we have to,” the foundation said.

Unfortunately there were two other suicides that happened last week as well. A female by the name of Sydney Aiello was a survivor of the Parkland high school shooting on valentine’s day 2017. She was very good friends with, Meadow Pollack one of the seventeen people killed in the shooting. Since the tragedy she suffered from survivors guilt, and was diagnosed with PTSD. She graduated months after the shooting, and had her college plan all set out. She committed suicide March 17th, 2019. Her funeral was Friday in Florida.

The last suicide was on Saturday. A Stoneman Douglas student died in a “apparent suicide.” The student hasn’t been publicly identified. The male was confirmed to be a sophomore as well. The parkland community is mourning over these children losing their lives so soon.
