World Cup champion and two-time FIFA Player of the Year, Carli Lloyd, received an offer to kick in an NFL preseason game last week, her trainer told Fox Sports. This all started after she nailed a difficult 55-yard field goal at a Philadelphia Eagles practice. She displayed her smooth soccer skills and showed how they can be translated to the game of football. The kick was recorded on camera and the video quickly went viral, catching the attention of many teams.

The star soccer player is a lifelong Eagles fan. She was in town for the U.S. women’s soccer friendly versus Portugal. Lloyd noted on NFL Total Access that she would have entertained the idea of kicking in an NFL preseason game if she didn’t have a soccer game scheduled on the same exact day. However, despite Lloyd’s current lack of interest, many people within the NFL were seemingly impressed. She revealed that her agent got as many as two offers to join the unnamed teams–both pretty serious.

Reactions to Lloyd receiving offers from NFL teams were somewhat mixed. Many people praised and congratulated her on the offer to make NFL history. However, there were those who thought that the idea was insane, due to her gender and size when compared to her male counterparts in the National Football League. They questioned her general lack of experience in football. Lloyd is aware of the obstacles that she would face if she ever wanted to pursue the NFL but commented that it would be worth it as it “…is the kind of something that’s going to break down some barriers and give people, women especially, the confidence to know that maybe they can be a part of any NFL team as a kicker.”
