On Friday, September 13, Centreville High School’s undefeated juggernaut of a varsity football team (3-0) took on  South Lakes High School (2-1) at our home field. The game started at 7:00, and Featured a USA theme. At half time, they introduced the first ever CVHS athletic hall of fame class. Former NFL player and inaugural inductee for the CVHS hall of fame, Will Montgomery, who is known for leading Cville to its first ever state championship for football in 2000, was selected to be an honorary team captain for the wildcats.

Going into the game, it looked like it was going to be a tough match up with both teams having winning records. When asked about what he thought of the other team, Cville’s head coach stated, “They are a really good team, but they’re really aggressive, and we’ll be looking to capitalize on that.”

After the first quarter they rushed for one touchdown, they  went into the second quarter with CVHS leading South Lakes 7-0. Things really got started then, as after forcing a fumble, Cville scored a field goal making the score 10-0. Not too long after that, South Lakes punted, resulting in a punt return of 59 yards for a touchdown, making it 17-0. On the next South Lakes’ possession, Cville intercepted a pass, and on the next play scored a passing touchdown. The first quarter concluded with 25 points for Cville and 0 for South Lakes.

After receiving the kickoff at the start of the second half, Cville let up a passing TD by South Lakes, making the score 24-8. A few possessions went by before Cville answered with a 61 yard passing touchdown. On the next 2 drives, South Lakes was halted by an interception and a Sack by Nicki Kuzemka on the 4th down. Cville then went onto scored on a rushing play one last time before the end of the 3rd quarter, making the score 38-8. The last Scoring play of the game came in the 4th quarter on a 53 yard pick 6 by Cville, making the final score Cville 45 – South Lakes 8.

Some notable players in this game include Presley Egbers who went 10 for 17 passing, with 117 yards and 2 touchdowns. Jordan Wright had 7 catches for 105 yards and 2 touchdowns. Lastly Jabar Anunay rushed for 1 touchdown, which was the final score of the game.

It was a great game with an energetic and patriotic atmosphere, with a historic feeling to it. Cville played great ending the game with a 4-0 record which they hope to make 5-0 this coming Friday.
