Zoic: conditional love

(Photo: Charlotte Edey)

teach me kindness, teach me love;

try to touch it, keep me gloved.

you wonder why i won’t look your way;

you don’t deserve the light of day.

cut the rose before it blooms,

strike the baby in the womb.

my heart once knew a sweeter tune

than hatred that you spew, you spew.

cuts deeper than the ocean is.

holding a knife, and blood it drips.

cast to the ground, and you won’t weep.

just make me suffer, even in my sleep.

go ahead and try your hand.

loathe me, i won’t give a damn.

i don’t want stories from above,

i don’t want your conditional love.
