Burnout. It happens to everyone, really.
Whether it is on the subject of getting your homework done or studying for a late night test, the concept of having to sit in front of a desk can be tiring for some. Whether this is because of the fact of the task building up and becoming tiresome overtime or simply not feeling up to the task, time ticks away, the assignment being laid untouched on the table.
This common occurrence, burnout, is a regular phenomenon that has particularly been towards the seniors of high school in the CVHS community today. Nothing is more refreshing than anxiety pooling in your gut as you pull up a chair and take out your writing utensils just for the person next to you to go “don’t worry, I didn’t study for it either.”
“I would say that burnout varies depending on the subject I have,” one student, Jessica Troup, states. “If it is something more science related, then I can finish it more quickly, but I did take a lot of AP classes, and doing the work for that alone is draining.”
Jessica has always been the hardworking type, but with caretaking for her siblings and selecting classes this year it has drained her motivation to indulge in subjects where she would much rather be spending her time on for free time.
Another senior, Sean Kim, states that though he has always had burnout throughout his life, this year has been particularly aggravating with his soccer practice and environmental factors. Between applying to college and filing out applications, it definitely took a toll on his determination factors as well.
“I would much rather play video games, honestly.” He states. “To me, especially if the teacher talks about something that I already know about, the idea of it seems trivial.”
Students should remind themselves to take care of their struggles and remember to take plenty of breaks in between. The more that one puts themself first-a factor that ties into their safety-the better it is for them to use their mindfulness to study at a more brightened rate.
And more importantly, making more positive memories along the way.
