Mrs. Lutes has been at Centreville High School for nine years as an Assistant Principal and as the supervisor of the Language Department.
At the age of 14, Mrs. Lutes worked as a soccer referee. When she got older she began working in the educational department. She worked in a multitude of schools including, Interagency Alternative Schools, South County Secondary School, Cedar Lane Elementary School, Thoreau Middle School, and Greenbriar East Elementary School.
She had learned about jobs in Centreville High School through a “Job Opportunities Email,” but the reason behind her choosing Centreville was because of its diverse population. Mrs. Lutes wanted to work in Centreville High School because of all the different cultures that students and staff get exposed to. She believes that this is something very beneficial to students, because “when students are exposed to different cultures, languages and lived experiences daily, they develop the cultural competency and empathy required to navigate a global society,” says Mrs. Lutes.
“There is something incredibly rewarding about seeing a student’s world get bigger right in front of you,” she says. Since working in Centreville High School Mrs. Lutes has enjoyed witnessing a student’s transformation as they develop in school. She thinks that it’s such a wonderful thing to watch a student’s world grow as they get older and learn new things during their time in school. It’s one of the special things that she truly enjoys about her job in Centreville High School.
Other than watching her students grow into young adults, Mrs. Lutes is very fond of all the Graduation Ceremonies that she has attended while working in Centreville High School. “Graduation isn’t just a win for students, it’s a win for the entire community. It’s the one time of the year when the ‘Village’ — teachers, administrators, counselors and families — all stand in the same room to celebrate a common goal,” states Mrs. Lutes. Graduation has become a very valued experience for Mrs. Lutes because it allows her to be a part of a community that can all come together to show their pride for the success of their younger members of society.
Mrs. Lutes enjoys working at Centreville High School because of all the wonderful experiences that she has come to have during her time at Centreville High. From various cultures, to community celebrations, Mrs. Lutes will continue to work at Centreville High as not only an Assistant Principal but a member of a meaningful “Village.”
