The Centreville High School freshman boys basketball team has opened its winter season with an undefeated 6-0 record, establishing itself as a strong contender in the Concord Region. The team’s early success has come through disciplined defense, consistent scoring and strong teamwork throughout December and early January.
The fast start has brought attention to Centreville’s freshman program and set high expectations for the rest of the season, highlighting the depth of the program as players develop for future junior varsity competition.
Freshman team player Andrew Morgan said the team’s chemistry extends beyond the players who see the most minutes.“Even if you’re not playing much, everyone supports each other, and that team chemistry is a big reason we’re winning,” Andrew said.
According to MaxPreps, Centreville has remained unbeaten through January, winning all six games played so far. They have been showing consistent preparation on both ends of the court.
Freshman starter Michael Zhang credited the team’s defensive focus for the team’s early success.”Our defense sets the tone, and when we play disciplined basketball, everything else falls into place,” Michael Zhang said.
