Mrs. Wenzel has been an employee of Centreville High school for the past 29 years. Before working at Centreville High school, her first job was making flies for fly fishing retail shops as a teenager. After finishing college she applied for jobs in the FCPS School system. Centreville High school was her first choice of work, because at the time the school was known to be very big. Due to her preference of large schools, Centreville High school seemed to be a good fit.
Mrs.Wenzel has spent so much time at Centreville High school, she has had the opportunity to watch the school population become more diverse than it had been when she first applied for the school.
During her first eight years at Centreville High school, Mrs. Wenzel worked in a variety of school positions. She has been a special education teacher for Algebra 1 and English 10, and a US/VA History and Government teacher. She also spent time as an Assessment Coach for school SOLs and Data testing. She then dedicated the next 17 years working as an Assistant Principal for Centreville High school.
Other than work, Mrs. Wenzel has also reveled in some fun times at Centreville High school. Back in the day Centreville High School faculty would participate in “Faculty Follies” which were humorous skits that teachers and administrators would perform in the auditorium for students to enjoy. For an SNL inspired skit, Mrs. Wenzel impersonated one of the very bad students in a class that a teacher had to deal with in the past school year.Â
“The thing I like the most is that I have the opportunity to know a lot of people, teachers and students.” Mrs. Wenzel has spent thirty years in Centreville High school, because of the people. She enjoys spending time with her colleagues and being around the students that attend the high school. This has been a major influence on why she has decided to stay as long as she has.
Mrs. Wenzel’s work and dedication is shown throughout all her years of being an employee of Centreville High school. “I’m just ready to move on to the next thing.”Mrs. Wenzel is currently planning to retire by the end of the 2026 school year, marking this year as her 30th year employed in Centreville High school. She knows that when she leaves her next major career, she will be leaving behind a school full of fond memories.
